Winter White Elegance For Your Home
Take your inspiration from the seasons to bring elegance to your home this year.
The changing colours of the season in nature have always been an inspiration for home décor. The winter months have nature covering the ground with white, be that frost or snow and taking inspiration from mother nature we are stripping back the decor and delivering crisp, winter whites to accompany the season.
Is there anything more beautiful than freshly fallen snow on a landscape, be that a cityscape or a gently curving hillside? White is a brave choice as a colour, or lack of a colour palette, but when combined with textures it delivers and looks stunning in the home.
White is one of the wonderful colours that can be styled whatever your interior taste, whether that is minimalist, Scandi, Boho, Quiet Luxury, or Country Living and the list goes on.
White for the Floor
If you are lucky enough to have floorboards, they look incredible painted or washed in white. Dress with a white textured rug to start your layering from the bottom and begin adding your furniture which will bring the cosy feel. No dogs, cats or children? Then a white carpet carefully looked after speaks of opulence and glamour.
White for the Walls
Whatever your wall composition whether modern plasterboard, Victorian wood panelling or historic brick or stone, a coat of white paint can be transformational. It doesn’t need to be perfectly applied as that informal aged look in character homes works to highlight those feature nooks and crannies which make your home unique. White walls are the perfect backdrop and as such emphasise the art or photographs you choose to adorn your space, making them the focal and talking points.
White for the Ceiling
Give a sense of lofty height by extending the white onto the ceiling and accessorise with a sculptural lampshade or glass chandelier if you have the space. The glass crystal droplets against the white will give the impression of falling snow or ice and give a sense of drama to such a simply painted room.
Keep layering your whites with furniture and furnishings and use your layering of textiles to create the impact. At this point if your whites don’t quite match it won’t matter, white isn’t about matching cool with cool and warm with warm, there are a multitude of shades of white that can be drawn upon to get that finished look.
As experts in bedroom, bathroom and dining fabrics and linens, it is a given that we would not only include fabrics with furnishings! Fabrics and linens are the finishing touches that should never be overlooked! Fabrics are more than about the aesthetic, they are the touch and feel of your room, the dashes of cosiness and the wrapping of comfort you give to yourselves and your guests! Think cushions, blankets, throws and layer with wool, cotton, cashmere and sheepskin.
Our Favourite Accents
Breaking up your white should be left to the treasures you have accumulated during your journey through life, be that art, sculpture, photos or your special mementoes. However, having been inspired by nature to create your white homescape we suggest you return there for inspiration.
Our favourite accents are natural woods, stone and metal elements like copper, silver and gold. One final must-have, or a dozen if you feel green-fingered, is the living plant. Not plastic but a living, photosynthesizing cheese, money or spider plant, a palm tree, a lily or an ivy. They bring life and clean the air!
Vision in White
Vision’s field of excellence is white bed linens! We understand natural sustainably sourced cotton, duck filled, cluster fibre vs hollowfibre, tog ratings, thread counts, towel weights, warps and wefts and how these impact the depth of plumpness, the control of temperature and the sheen or matt of the weave in relation to look. We believe that classic white bedding is timeless and adds an elegance that no other colour can! So, when it comes to white in the bedroom, the only choice is white!
We also love a white towel bale on your bathroom shelf and the white dining tablecloth and matching napkin!
Dress in White this Winter
Go all in! From floor to ceiling dress it in white, or create your backdrop and temper with stunning personal interior design choices.
To paraphrase a famous Rodgers and Hammerstein composition, ‘Small and white, clean and bright, bless our homes forever!’
